GENERAL DENTAL TREATMENTS
A Gentle, Holistic Dental Home for You and Your Family
When you are looking for a dental home for you and your family, look no further than Williamsburg Dental Arts. We offer general dentistry services alongside our advanced procedures, so we can be your one location for all your dental needs. We recommend visiting the dentist for routine checkups at least every six months so that we can keep your oral health in ideal condition and catch any potential problem areas before they devifrelop into more serious concerns. Our doctors and staff care about both your oral and overall health, so we practice holistic dentistry to ensure that all the work we do to improve your oral health, benefits your entire body as well.
Natural-Looking Composite Restorations for Tooth Fillings
After you have had a cavity treated, the location will need to be protected from future damage with a filling. We offer composite fillings, which are a hand-layered tooth-colored material, instead of metal amalgam fillings. Composite fillings are more beneficial to your overall health as they do not contain mercury or other trace metals and are BPA-free and composed of biocompatible material. We are also able to color match your composite fillings to your teeth, so the aesthetics of your smile will not be affected by the filling. Composite restorations typically last three to six years, but with regular hygiene visits, the longevity can be extended.
Repair Damage to Your Teeth with Ceramic Restorations
For patients who have larger, more severe cavities or damage to their teeth, we can provide ceramic inlays and onlays. By using ceramic material, these restorations are typically stronger than composite material and are ideal for patients who grind their teeth or have severe crowding around the affected area. Inlays are placed in between the cusps of the teeth while onlays cover more of the tooth structure, usually including one or more cusps. We create our inlays and onlays by taking a digital scan of your teeth and sending those images to our in-house milling machine. You will be able to enjoy a strong, attractive restoration the same day as your appointment.
Preventative Sealants Protect the Hard to Reach Spaces of Your Mouth
Used for both children and adults, preventative sealants are used to avoid cavities from developing in the hard to reach areas of the mouth. We will apply a thin coat of composite to your back teeth that will prevent bacteria from gathering inside the deep grooves. Applying preventative sealants is minimally invasive and requires no use of anesthesia. This option benefits young children as they learn proper habits of effective teeth cleaning, without compromising their teeth.
Replace Old Metal Fillings with Biocompatible Restorations
If you have an old metal filling, we are able to replace it with a more holistic and attractive composite filling. Metal fillings contain multiple metal materials, including mercury, and can become contaminated, which can negatively affect your health. Metal filling removal has been linked to increased immunity and enhanced neural and sensory conductivity. Additionally, replacing a metal filling will improve the longevity of the tooth as it is less likely to become infected or damaged further.

CEREC® Crowns Restore Function to Your Teeth the Same Day as Your Appointment. High Quality Dental Crowns Crafted with Advanced Technology
Dental crowns are a common restoration treatment for teeth that are damaged or for a dental implant in need of a restoration. At Williamsburg Dental Arts, we use only the highest quality ceramic material when creating your custom crowns and utilize advanced CEREC® same-day technology to make the process quick and simple for you. Crowns are used to treat fractured or compromised teeth and to restore tooth structure after a large cavity has been treated. In some cases, the dental crown will cosmetically enhance the shape, size, color and position of the tooth, improving the overall appearance of your smile.
The CEREC Crown Process
Your comfort is one of our highest priorities, so we have invested in state-of-the-art CEREC technology to make the process of dental crowns as easy as possible. CEREC allows us to take a digital scan of your oral structure, avoiding the need for messy, gag-inducing impressions. Our doctors use this scan when designing your custom crown to fit perfectly within your mouth. The CEREC machine then mills a high-quality ceramic crown right away and is finished that very day. We can then fit the new crown to your tooth so you do not have to worry about wearing temporaries or going without a restoration for any amount of time.
The Benefits of CEREC Crowns
- No goopy impressions
- Strong ceramic material used
- Crown created the same day as your appointment
- No need for temporaries
- Cosmetically improve your smile
We Value Your Time and Comfort
Time is a commodity and we understand how important it is to have treatments completed quickly and in one visit. With our CEREC technology, you will not have to come back to the office for a second visit just to be fitted for your restoration. Dental crowns are routine procedures for our doctors and most people enjoy the cosmetic and functional benefits that the treatment gives them. With proper care and routine dental visits, your crown should last you many years.

PERIODONTAL AND PREVENTIVE TREATMENTS
Much like the foundation of a building, the gums and the bone below them serve as the support and foundation of the teeth and mouth. Healthy, strong teeth can be lost in the presence of gum disease just like a beautiful structure can crumble if it’s support and foundation is compromised. Gum Disease also known as Periodontal Disease is something that we all face as we age. There are millions of bacteria living in our mouths and as we age, our immunity decreases allowing for isolated incidences of inflammation. If our home care habits are sub-par, we further increase the chances of gum inflammation. Gum inflammation or gum disease will sometimes present itself with bleeding gums on brushing or flossing, un-fresh breath or even tooth sensitivity. However, for the most part, it is a silent disease that has devastating consequences on the rest of the major organs and our overall health. The easiest way to diagnose if inflammation is present in your mouth is to have a periodontal exam, a standard of care with every cleaning and checkup. If caught early, gum disease can be arrested and can have a significant impact on your overall health as well as allow you to keep your teeth for the rest of your life.
Gum Tissue is Important to Your Oral Health
Your gum health is just as important as the health of your teeth and jaw bone. Your gums assist in holding your teeth in place, preventing bacteria from attacking your sensitive tooth roots and jaw bone, and adding aesthetics to your smile. When you are affected by gum recession, the soft gum tissue surrounding your teeth begin to pull back from their natural position. Without seeking treatment for receding gums, you run the risk of damage to your teeth and even eventual tooth loss.
Symptoms of Gum Recession:
- Teeth look elongated
- Discoloration near the gum line
- Small gaps between teeth
- Teeth feel loose or shift
- Sensitivity to hot or cold beverages
State-of-the-Art Techniques for Receding Gums
At Williamsburg Dental Arts, we offer leading gum recession treatments to restore longevity to your gum health. We believe in minimally invasive treatments to ensure a faster healing process and more comfort for our patients. Traditional gum grafting involves two surgeries; one to remove a piece of tissue from the roof of the mouth, and a second to suture that tissue to the site of recession. We offer three alternatives for a more gentle and quicker treatment for gum recession:
- The Chao Pinhole® Surgical Technique – Our doctors are certified in the Pinhole Surgical Technique, which involves no scalpels or sutures and minimal bleeding. We simply make a small pin-sized hole in your gums just above the site of recession and gently reposition your gum tissue back to the appropriate levels. This covers exposed tooth roots and can be done in one visit. Many patients can go back to their normal routine right after treatment as well.
- Tunnel Technique – This gum recession treatment gently creates a small “tunnel” of space underneath the site of recession before inserting the graft material to cover the site of recession. Small sutures are then applied to hold the graft in place while it heals. After a short healing time, the graft will appear natural in your gums and smile as well as protect your teeth.
- Alloderm® – This approach to gum grafting uses donor tissue from another source instead of from the roof of your mouth. We apply this tissue to the site of recession and use sutures to hold it in place. The result is a natural-looking gum line with the graft blending in seamlessly to your smile.
Restore Your Smile with Experienced, Precise Treatment
Gum recession can be an embarrassing situation that has severe consequences if not treated in a timely and effective manner. Our doctors are extremely precise with every treatment and use surgical microscopes for a detailed and exact view during surgery. For those who may have anxiety about their treatment, we offer effective sedation options to relax you and ensure your gum recession treatment is as painless as possible.
If your smile has been affected by gum recession, schedule an appointment with our office today!
Over 50 percent of all Americans suffer from some degree of gum (periodontal) disease, but with regular hygiene visits, this condition can be prevented (source). Gum disease occurs when bacteria and plaque get below the gum line and infect the hard and soft tissues of the mouth. If treatment is not received, you run the risk of tooth loss and jaw bone deterioration. Research has also found a connection between gum disease and our systemic health, linking it to heart disease and stroke. At Williamsburg Dental Arts, we offer gentle and minimally invasive laser gum disease therapy to keep your mouth clear of infection.
Symptoms of Gum Disease:
- Swollen or inflamed gums
- Loose or shifting teeth
- Bad breath (halitosis)
- Bleeding gums
- Receding gums
- Sensitivity to hot and cold drinks
Advanced Laser Therapy to Treat Gum Disease
Our practice strives to stay up-to-date with the latest in dental technology to offer our patients an improved experience and modern treatment. This is why we have invested in an advanced BIOLASE® dental laser for minimally invasive treatment of gum disease. This technology uses gentle laser light to eliminate harmful bacteria while leaving healthy tissue unharmed. Plaque buildup is carefully removed to allow for proper gum reattachment and healthy hard and soft tissue is stimulated for regeneration. Unlike traditional gum disease surgery, there is no cutting or sutures involved and very minimal bleeding. Treatment can usually be completed in one visit and patients are able to quickly return to their daily routines.
Keep Your Smile Healthy for a Lifetime with Laser Therapy
Laser gum disease therapy adds longevity to your smile and gum health. By treating gum disease early, we can prevent the destructive effects of periodontitis. And for those who already have advanced gum disease, laser therapy is a gentle alternative for your routine periodontal maintenance visits. Our doctors are skilled and certified in laser dentistry and regularly attend continuing education courses to learn new techniques and treatments for effective care. Most of our patients enjoy the minimally invasive nature of laser surgery when compared to traditional methods, and report a quicker healing time.
If you are experiencing the symptoms of gum disease, contact our office today to experience gentle laser therapy!
Deep Clean Your Tooth Roots and Gums to Prevent Disease
Scaling and root planing is a common dental technique to deep clean your teeth of bacteria and plaque buildup. We utilize ultra-fine dental instruments that can access the area below the gum line where a toothbrush and dental floss are unable to reach. Our doctors will gently scrape away any buildup that is occurring on the tooth roots and causing irritation to the gums. Without this treatment, your gums can begin to recede, exposing the sensitive tooth roots to damage or disease. Scaling and root plaining is often used during periodontal maintenance treatment plans in order to prevent gum disease from recurring.
ARESTIN® is Clinically Proven to Kill Gum Disease Causing Bacteria
Those who are susceptible to gum (periodontal) disease can benefit from gentle ARESTIN® antibiotic treatment in conjunction with scaling and root planing to halt the progression of the disease and kill bacteria infecting gum tissue. ARESTIN is a powder filled with the antibiotic minocycline that kills bacteria within an infected periodontal pocket. Proven in clinical studies, ARESTIN is used to gently fight infection for up to 21 days, controlling the disease and reducing the size of periodontal pockets. This process helps prevent periodontal disease from returning to your gums and is more effective than just scaling and root planing alone.
Salivary DNA Testing
The latest of the DNA technologies, this easy and sophisticated swab takes less than 30 seconds to perform. If there are signs of early gum disease that are not responding to traditional treatments or if there is a genetic predisposition to gum disease in your family, this is a highly recommended test.
After a 7 day, in-lab analysis, a full spectrum of periodontal DNA markers is available for your doctor to review. By seeing the exact bacterial spectrum, your doctor can then create a specific plan of action to address the pathogenic bioflora with either traditional therapy or a specific probiotic regiment. Say goodbye to bad breath, tooth loss and gum recession 😁

The Cosmetic Consultation is a 15-30 min visit during which a series of photographs and digital images will be taken to evaluate the lip position as well as that of the teeth and gums. The bite is evaluated for idealized stress distribution and a detailed smile evaluation is performed . Sometimes molds are taken at this visit if significant changes to the shape, size, and position of the teeth is desired. Afterwards you feel meet with the Doctor is to discuss your individual wants and concerns as well as different treatment options.
Straighten Teeth Discreetly with Invisalign® Orthodontics
Having crooked or gapped teeth can hurt a person’s self-esteem, but for many, the idea of metal brackets and wires on their teeth is not a better option. Invisalign uses clear aligners for a virtually invisible appearance while straightening teeth. We use advanced digital technology that allows you to see what the final result of your orthodontic treatment may be before we even begin treatment. Invisalign is preferred over traditional braces in many instances since the aligners are removable. Being able to take the aligners out to brush and floss allows for healthier gums and reduces the development of gum disease. After treatment, a patient’s bite relationship between their upper and lower jaws is improved. A proper bite adds longevity to the smile by preventing the need for future dental treatments due to chipped, cracked or ground down teeth.
Dental Cosmetic Bonding Repairs Small Tooth Defects
Cosmetic bonding can easily correct minor defects in your smile, such as chips, cracks, fractures or even cases of gum recession. We can correct these defects the same-day you come in for your appointment by using hand-layered composite material that matches your natural tooth color. In order to ensure treatment lasts, cosmetic bonding may not be recommended for those who grind or clench their teeth. We do recommend replacing or touching up this treatment every two to five years depending on your specific needs.
Porcelain Veneers Easily Improve the Look of Your Teeth
Our minimal preparation porcelain veneers are a great solution to quickly correct stained, slightly gapped, crooked, or misshapen teeth. Veneers are as thin as a contact lens and cover the front of your teeth, masking any imperfections and giving you a brilliant smile. Our veneers add strength to the chipped, cracked or damaged enamel on your natural teeth. We follow the concept of biomimetics (the imitation of natural teeth) and work with the world’s master ceramists to create lifelike veneers that are difficult to distinguish from natural teeth.
Professional Teeth Whitening to Brighten Your Smile
We offer effective and quick teeth whitening options to brighten your smile by several shades. Professional teeth whitening can give you predictable whitening results in a fraction of the time that over-the-counter whitening strips provide. For the most ideal results, we can perform in-office Zoom!® laser whitening, which can improve your smile in just one visit, giving you a younger and healthier appearance that very day. For those that want to whiten their teeth in the convenience of their own home, we offer take-home options that can be worn overnight as they sleep or 30-minute daytime trays.
Cosmetic Enameloplasty for a Conservative Approach to Smile Enhancement
When you have minor damage or imperfections to your teeth, we can gently reshape and polish them to your desired look. This treatment is very conservative as it does not involve any additions to the teeth and can generally be completed in one office visit. The procedure is painless as there are no nerves in your enamel and once performed, the results are permanent. We can transform old, worn down teeth to appear new and fresh again and often combine this treatment with our professional teeth whitening procedures.

Restore Function to Your Mouth with Full Mouth Reconstruction
In some cases, we involve more functional treatments into your smile makeover plan in order to give you a proper oral function. We call this integrated therapy, or a full mouth reconstruction. These additional procedures usually include one or more dental implants, TMJ disorder therapy or an occlusal adjustment to realign your bite. While we want your smile to look beautiful, we also always consider the oral function as a whole and will do what is necessary to keep your mouth healthy and you free of pain.
Dental Implants Give Your Smile the Longevity to Last a Lifetime
Experience the Gold Standard of Tooth Replacement
It is no secret that advancements in science and medicine are increasing our lifespan, but over 178 million Americans are still missing at least one tooth with over 35 million are completely toothless. Living without teeth can be a struggle, however, we offer the ideal solution to missing teeth—dental implants. Implants are composed of titanium posts that integrate into your jaw bone and are restored with a lifelike crown to give you the function and appearance of a natural tooth. With dental implants, we can help our patients live their entire lives with functional and attractive teeth, promoting self-confidence and an enjoyment of all life has to offer. Dental implants can be used to replace an individual missing tooth, all the way to complete arch replacement for an entire mouth of missing teeth.
Dental Implants Provide Many Benefits
- Prevent bone deterioration
- Restore aesthetics to the smile
- Stronger bite and chewing function
- Improved self-confidence
- Prevent shifting of surrounding teeth
- Last a lifetime with proper care
The Dental Implant Process
Whenever we restore a patient’s mouth with dental implants, we use the most advanced technology in the dental field to ensure accurate and effective treatment. The process begins with a highly detailed digital scan of your jaw and oral structure using a cone beam CT scan. This will show us your bone volume levels and location of nerves and tooth roots to allow us to accurately plan the placement of an implant. We use this scan to create an implant guide, which ensures precision and predictable placement during surgery. When placing the implant within the jaw, our doctors use surgical microscopes for a detailed, accurate view.
Teeth-in-a-Day™ Restores Your Smile the Same Day as Your Appointment
We also offer Teeth-in-a-Day™ using our advanced CEREC® same-day restoration machine and high-quality Nobel Biocare® dental implants. This process allows us to place your dental implant and restore it with a permanent and lifelike dental crown the same day as your appointment. We can use this process to replace individual missing teeth all the way to full arches of teeth. The benefit of Teeth-in-a-Day is that you will come out of surgery with a new set of teeth you can begin using immediately. For those with a full arch of missing teeth, you will not need to wear uncomfortable dentures during the healing process, but instead, have functional teeth on day one. Candidates for Teeth-in-a-Day are those who:
- Are missing one, multiple or all their teeth
- Have adequate jaw bone volume
- Have a healthy oral structure
- Want to restore their smile right away
Work with an Experienced Implant Team
Our doctors consider how each dental implant will affect and appear in each patient’s smile. Dental implants can prevent bite collapse and jaw bone loss, essentially preventing the “aging” effect caused by missing teeth. Our goal is always to bring back the natural aesthetics and idealized function for each tooth we replace with an implant. For those with dental fear, Dr. Konstantin Rubinov is certified in IV sedation for the ultimate in anxiety-free treatments. Dr. Rubinov also has training from the American Academy of Implant Dentistry and is a Fellow of the International Congress of Oral Implantology. Dental implants can completely change your life for the better, so it is important to trust in those who are experienced in oral implantology.
Are You a Candidate for Dental Implants?
Dental implants are considered the gold standard of tooth replacement due to their oral health benefits, functionality and aesthetic look. However, to receive dental implants, a patient must have sufficient jaw bone volume to support the implant post. Without proper bone volume and density, the implant can fail due to not having enough support. We offer in depth dental implant consultations to identify if you are a candidate for surgery. Utilizing 3D CBCT scans provides us detailed information on your bone volume, and sometimes we will construct molds if multiple teeth are being replaced at once to ensure accuracy.
While dental implants are often considered the ideal solution for replacing missing teeth, they are not always the best solution for everyone. Dental implants restore your bite and appearance and can also last for the rest of your life with proper care. However, if you do not have good at-home hygiene care or are worried about pre- and post-operative care like bone grafting or maintenance visits, dental implants might not be your best option.
Schedule an appointment for your dental implant consultation and find out if you’d be a good candidate for surgery.
Get Permanent New Teeth in One Day
When you are missing teeth, self-confidence and quality of life drastically diminish. While there are temporary solutions to missing teeth, like dental bridges, they do not offer the stability and health benefits that a dental implant does. Traditionally, dental implants can take multiple visits and months to fully restore your smile, but at Williamsburg Dental Arts, we offer immediate implant placement and restoration. In the same day as your appointment, we can extract your teeth, place dental implants and restore them with CEREC dental crowns for a permanent new tooth. Patients enjoy the convenience of only having to make one visit to our office to give them a complete and natural new smile.
Qualify for Dental Implants with Advanced Bone Grafting Treatments
One of the key factors when it comes to placing dental implants is having adequate bone volume within the jaw to support the implant post. Bone loss often occurs when a tooth is not replaced soon after tooth loss or due to disease or trauma. We offer effective bone grafting treatment to restore lost bone volume and help qualify you for dental implants. Depending on your specific needs, we may need to perform different types of bone grafts.
The bone grafting treatments we offer include:
- Socket preservation – Replacing lost bone after a tooth has been extracted
- Sinus lift – Replace bone in the upper molar area of the jaw, under the sinus cavity
- Block graft – Standard bone grafting using a sample of bone from you or a donor
- Ridge splitting graft – Used to help expand the ridge to make more space for implants
Patients who are missing all their teeth or have many failing teeth are candidates for the All-on-4® dental implant procedure All-on-4 is able to give patients a complete arch of permanent new teeth the same day as their appointment. This is done by utilizing four to six dental implants strategically placed within areas of the jaw with the most bone. During the procedure our doctors will be able to extract your remaining teeth, place implants and attach a full arch prosthesis all during the same appointment.
The benefits of the All-on-4 procedure is that you will never have to go without teeth after extraction and implant placement. With traditional full arch dental implant cases, there are multiple steps and lengthy recovery times before patients would be able to enjoy a complete smile. All-on-4 has streamlined the implant procedure and gives you the smile you desire in just one appointment.
Effective Extraction of Problem Wisdom Teeth
Wisdom teeth are extra molars that begin developing within the jaw during the late teenage years for many patients. These teeth often do not have proper space to grow within the jaw and can become impacted, meaning they partially erupt from the bone. Impacted wisdom teeth often cause pain, can damage surrounding oral structure, easily become infected and can alter your bite, which is why we offer wisdom tooth extraction.
We begin our extraction by performing a CT scan on your jaw to get a detailed view of your oral structures and where the wisdom teeth and nerves are located. You will then be sedated to give you an anxiety and pain-free surgery. Dr. Konstantin Rubinov is certified in advanced IV sedation, which puts patients in a dream-like state and makes surgery easy. We will then surgically extract the wisdom teeth being careful not to damage surrounding teeth and jaw nerves. After extraction, patients will be free of pain and infection caused by their problem wisdom teeth.
Rejuvenate the Appearance of Your Smile with Cosmetic Gum Contouring
The gums are more important to your oral health than many people imagine. They not only protect your sensitive tooth roots and hold your teeth in place, but also frame your teeth attractively when you smile. For those who are unhappy with the appearance of their gums, we offer cosmetic gum contouring treatments to improve the look and health of your gums. When performing gum contouring treatment, we utilize state-of-the-art laser technology for a gentle and scalpel-free treatment.
For those with infected or diseased gum tissue, we can perform a gingivectomy treatment. This involves using our dental laser to gently remove diseased gum tissue from your smile without harming healthy tissue. Afterward your gums will be able to heal and reattach successfully to your teeth, limiting periodontal pocket depth and look healthy when you smile.
Some patients suffer from a “gummy smile” that reveals too much gum tissue and makes their teeth look shorter. With gentle laser therapy, we can remove the excess tissue and expose more of the natural tooth crown. By removing the excess tissue, we minimize the areas for bacteria to gather and thrive and can expose covered areas that may be affected by decay. Cosmetically, patients enjoy a more natural look with longer teeth and a balanced smile.
Periodontal (gum) disease can be a very aggressive infection: Left untreated, it can destroy the vital periodontal structures that protect teeth and maintain their attachment to the jaw. The end result—tooth loss—harms both your health and appearance.
Controlling gum disease and ultimately restoring health and appearance to damaged gums and tooth-supporting bone requires aggressive treatment—sometimes even surgical measures. Periodontal (gum) surgery treats moderate to advanced disease. If the infection has caused deep periodontal pockets (5 mm or more) or has settled beyond the reach of manual scalers, then gum surgery may be needed to access, clean and repair the diseased areas.
Flap surgery is one type of procedure used to access the deeper pockets of infection and clean them. The surgeon, usually a periodontist, creates a three-sided flap in the gum tissue, with one side still attached to the blood supply. The resulting opening resembles the flap of an envelope. Opening the flap, the surgeon can then access deep periodontal pockets to perform plaque removal, as well as repair receded gum tissue or lost bone. When finished, the surgeon then sutures the flap closed with self-dissolving stitches.
Regenerative techniques may also be needed to re-grow lost tissue and bone. These involve the use of various grafting procedures to obtain tissue from the roof of the patient’s mouth or another source and attach it where needed. Once in place, the graft acts as a scaffold for new gum tissue to grow upon and develop. These micro-surgical techniques require meticulous skill (and some level of art) not only to place the grafting material so it is most conducive to growth, but also to fashion it cosmetically to achieve the most attractive result.
These and similar procedures are usually performed with local anesthesia, sometimes supplemented with other sedation methods. Special cleaning instructions will be given to protect the site from further infection, and any minor discomfort after the procedure can usually be managed with anti-inflammatory medication (like ibuprofen) for a few days.
Renew Your Gums and Your Smile with Effective Gum Grafting
Your gum tissue is an important part of your smile and oral health, but when damage or recession occurs, your teeth and self-esteem become compromised. When you have damaged gum tissue, your teeth are more likely to become damaged due to the exposure of the sensitive tooth roots. In extreme cases of gum tissue loss, teeth can become lose, shift or even fall out. The most effective solution to lost gum tissue is soft tissue grafting. We will take a sample of tissue from the roof of your mouth or a donor source and suture it over the site of recession. Once healed, the graft will look seamless in your smile and cover exposed tooth roots as well as restore balance to your smile.
Reduce Anxiety and Fear with Dental Sedation
Treat Your Dental Concerns Without Fear
If going to the dentist makes you feel uncomfortable, you are not alone. Dental fear affects nearly 40 million Americans, but there are solutions to combat this anxiety. Our practice offers advanced sedation options to help relieve this fear and allow you to get the dental care you need without worry. When you do not seek treatment for your oral concerns, problems can compound and get worse, requiring even more extensive and invasive procedures later on. By choosing our sedation options, we can treat your concerns with minimal discomfort or anxiety.
We custom tailor our sedation options to you and your specific procedural needs. This allows us to provide you with the most comfort and potentially complete multiple treatments in one visit, eliminating the need for you to come back for more appointments. Our doctors offer some of the most advanced forms of dental sedation for your comfort, including:
- Oral Sedation – This sedation is administered via a pill that is taken before your procedure begins. Once the sedation goes into effect, it will put you into a sleepy and relaxed state, removing fears and anxieties you may have. The effects can linger after treatment is completed, so it is best to have a friend or family member available to drive you home.
- Nitrous Oxide – Commonly known as “laughing gas,” this sedation is applied via a mask worn during treatment. Fast-acting, you will feel relaxed and calm during your procedure. You will still be able to respond to our instructions and answer questions we have, but will likely not remember much of your treatment. Once the mask is removed after your procedure, the effects quickly fade.
- IV Sedation – This form of dental sedation is delivered intravenously and used for our more advanced procedures. IV sedation will put you into a state of total relaxation, allowing us to complete any procedures necessary. After treatment, you will need a friend or family member to assist you home.
Safe and Effective Sedation
Dental sedation is a safe and effective treatment for patients suffering from dental anxiety or phobia. Our doctors and staff have years of experience administering sedation and regularly attended continuing education courses to expand their knowledge. Dr. Konstantin Rubinov is also certified in advanced IV sedation, so you can experience the ultimate in relaxation. We have designed our office to have a relaxing, spa-like atmosphere to assist in putting you at ease so you can enjoy your experience at Williamsburg Dental Arts.
If you experience dental anxiety, contact our office today for a consultation on what sedation option is best for you.
Tooth Clenching & Grinding (Bruxism) Treatments
Protect Your Teeth and Relieve Headaches Caused by Teeth Grinding
When you suffer from teeth grinding (bruxism), your teeth will subconsciously grind together, wearing them down and potentially cracking or even breaking teeth. This grinding can also be damaging to any dental work you have already had done, like crowns or bridges, causing them to break and requiring you to come back to the dentist for repair appointments. We offer a variety of effective nightguards that you wear while sleeping to prevent grinding and protect your tooth structure. Many patients who suffer from constant migraines due to teeth grinding can take advantage of our NTI appliance, which is FDA approved to provide relief without the need for prescription medications. With a small investment in a nightguard oral appliance, you can prevent much more costly problems from developing in the future and relieve you of pain.
Treat Your TMJ or Sleep Apnea Concerns in One Location
Oral Health Does Not End with Your Teeth
At Williamsburg Dental Arts, we look at how your oral health affects your entire body. We frequently see patients who come in for TMJ therapy or treatment for sleep apnea. Both of these conditions are related to your oral health and can be improved to relieve your pain and frustration while also preventing further issues. Both TMJ and sleep apnea are under-diagnosed conditions because their symptoms seem commonplace or are difficult to detect. We offer advanced techniques and procedures to evaluate if you are suffering from either of these conditions and provide treatment customized to your unique needs.
Sleep apnea is a difficult condition to diagnose because, as the name implies, it occurs while you sleep. Those affected may experience cessations of breathing during the night, which restricts oxygen flow to brain and gives an overall poor night’s sleep. There are several signs and symptoms of sleep apnea, including:
- Constant snoring
- Daytime sleepiness
- Frequently waking during the night
- Morning dry mouth and sore throat
- Irritability and mood swings
Sleep Apnea Diagnosis and Treatment
In order to accurately diagnose sleep apnea, you must complete a sleep study. We understand that your time and comfort are important to you, so we have partnered with a company named iSleep Program® to give you sleep apnea tests in the comfort of your own home. We will give you a sleep questionnaire to fill out and a sleep watch to wear when you go to bed. This watch will relay information on how well you slept and help us determine if you are affected by sleep apnea. If you require treatment, we can create a sleep appliance that you will wear in your mouth while sleeping. This appliance is custom made to fit your jaw and works by adjusting the position of your jaw to open the airway more completely. Many of our patients report an improved night’s sleep and increased energy levels after seeking treatment for sleep apnea.
Your temporomandibular joint (TMJ) is the muscle that connects your jaw to your skull. When this gets overworked, damaged or out of place, it can make it difficult, and even painful, to use your jaw like normal. Every new patient that comes into our office with symptoms of temporomandibular joint disorder (TMD) is given a full exam of their bite and jaw. Common symptoms of TMJ disorder include:
- Jaw pain
- Chronic headaches
- Difficulty using the jaw
- Popping or grating sounds in the jaw
- Facial soreness
Treatments for TMJ Disorder
If the cause of your TMJ disorder is that your jaw muscles are too tense or you grind your teeth, we can create an NTI appliance that is worn in your mouth. This relaxes the jaw muscles and prevents teeth grinding while asleep. We also offer occlusal adjustments, which is a treatment that corrects an improper bite. We can gently trim down areas of your teeth that are touching at improper locations to give your bite a more natural function. If the source of your TMD is from an overworked muscle, our Botox® injectables can be used to relax your jaw joint and provide relieve your pain.
